November 30, 2007 by Robin Kaminski

LYNN – A fundraiser and recipe-sampling event will take place Dec. 3 to benefit the Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development (LHAND) Outreach Program. The event will be held at 10 Church St., from 6-8 p.m. in the community room. Admission is $3.Attendees will receive a sampling of recipes from the cookbook “From Our House to Your House,” a collection of recipes submitted by LHAND staff and friends. The cookbook, which includes 150 recipes, will be available for $15. All proceeds from the event and cookbook sales will benefit the Outreach Program. In addition, if a cookbook is purchased, the admission cost is credited toward the cost of the book. For more information, contact Erin Ford at 781-581-8610.The LHAND Outreach Program was formed roughly 12 years ago and was initially instituted to assist needy families and senior citizens during the Christmas holiday season with winter coats, hats, mittens, toys and a food basket. However, over the years, the program expanded, as was the assistance given to families during other holidays and throughout the year. Children have also been sent to summer camp and assistance has been given for school shopping and emergency situations.A variety of grant and loan programs have been made available to address the needs of renters, owners, homebuyers and non-profit housing providers, including zero and low-interest loans.Currently, LHAND provides housing to over 3,000 people, with the majority being senior citizens and disabled individuals in the community.According to LHAND staff, through fundraisers such as the cookbook event, the Outreach Program will continue to grow and assist needy families in the community.
