SALEM – North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) is among the first on the North Shore to use new web-based technology to streamline the registration and assessment process for its surgical patients. Those patients will now be able to complete the medical history portion of their registration online on the secure One Medical Passport site(www.OneMP.com).Completing a One Medical Passport medical history online is easy. Patients enter their own demographic information, insurance information, medication lists, and general medical history through a secure web site before their procedure. For most patients, filling out the entire questionnaire takes less than 15 minutes, and saves valuable time the day of a patient’s surgery.NSMC, as well as several other Partners Health System hospitals, has recently joined One Medical Passport.Patients scheduled to have surgery at NSMC Salem Hospital or NSMC Union Hospital in Lynn are now being encouraged to submit their medical history online at the start of the registration process.”Our nurse practitioners have been freed up to spend more time with patients who need special attention for the pre-surgery assessment,” said Martha McGrath, an assistant nurse manager at NSMC Salem Hospital. “Healthy patients with minimal risk factors won’t need to come in prior to the day of their surgery.”A medical team reviews the information for accuracy with the patient before the procedure, and repeat visitors simply update their information before coming in.One Medical Passport uses the highest grade of internet security available: 128 bit encryption with SSL (secure socket layer) technology. Patient information is stored on servers at a secure web hosting site and is only released to a medical team at NSMC.
