Gloucester thoroughly dominates Hingham to win Division 2A Super Bowl

FOXBOROUGH – All the talk coming into Saturday’s Division 2A Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium centered around whether Hingham or Gloucester were going to be able to shut down the two most productive offenses in the division.Question answered. In one of the most dominating performances in recent memory at a Super Bowl, the Fishermen held Hingham’s 2,000 yard rusher Chris Constantine to just eight carries for eight yards while getting a pair of 100 yard games from both Anthony Enderle and Andrew Fulford en route to a 41-0 win and the program’s first crown since 2000.”The kids have a lot of confidence in their ability,” Gloucester coach Paul Ingram said. “It’s also nice that they respect each other and don’t care about who gets the credit.”The win gives Gloucester its fourth Super Bowl championship since 1991 and ties for third in the annals of blowouts in Eastern Mass Super Bowl games.Simply put, the Harbormen could do nothing with the speedy Gloucester defense. Hingham had a grand total of 50 yards at halftime and only two first downs. They were even more anemic in the second 20 minutes, gaining only three yards in total offense and netting only two first downs. In fact, when Enderle chugged 73 yards for a touchdown on Gloucester’s first offensive play of the second half, he had twice as many rushing yards as Hingham had in total yards.”These kids play with intensity all the time and they make it easy for us coaches,” Ingram said. The Harbormen (10-3) got the ball to begin the game and could do nothing with it. Following the punt, it took only two plays and 30 seconds for Gloucester to get on the board as Fulford raced 33 yards to the Hingham 33. Enderle followed suit on the next play and the Fishermen had a 6-0 lead just 1:52 into the game.Hingham failed to get anything done on its next possession and the Fishermen (13-0) took full advantage as Fulford capped a lengthy drive with his 35th touchdown of the season, a 10-yard jaunt up the middle. Enderle’s 2-point conversion made it 14-0 Gloucester after one quarter.”We’ve come out of the gates fast all season and to get that second one right at the end of the quarter was a great boost,” Ingram said. The Harbormen finally put a march together early in the second quarter, reaching the Gloucester 35 before quarterback Pat McAuley badly overthrew a ball inside the five, where Fulford was able to make a beautiful diving interception at the three. The Fishermen then showed the diversity that helped lead them to the highest point total in the Northeastern Conference this season. Fulford, Enderle and Taylor Burbine all touched the ball on a 97-yard touchdown drive that Burbine capped with a 54-yard bolt of lightning around left end that made it 22-0 with 2:19 left in the half.Sensing blood in the water, Gloucester was prepared to put the Harbormen on the docks and when Hingham muffed the ensuing kickoff, Dylan Maki was there to recover at the 21.On the next play, Fulford found a small crease in the Hingham line and raced down the right hashmarks for Gloucester’s second touchdown in 14 seconds and a 28-0 lead. Not even the halftime buzzer could save Hingham as the Harbormen were stuffed on the next series and lined up to punt with 45 seconds left. But Ross Carlson raced up the middle to block the kick. He then scooped up the loose ball and went 16 yards for the score and a 34-0 halftime lead.Gloucester got the second half kick and Enderle promptly went 73 yards to the endzone to make it 41-0 and insure that the NEC North champs would take home the gold trophy from Gillette.
