LYNNFIELD-The Lynnfield police officer struck numerous times by a vehicle during an attempted arrest Friday is doing okay.Sgt. Sean Donovan was hit around 2:30 p.m. at 14 Orchard Lane as he attempted to calm a man with a reported history of mental illness.Donovan was wearing his bulletproof vest, which prevented further injuries, said police dispatcher Diane Williams.”The doctor said it could have been a lot of broken ribs,” Williams said.Donovan was released from the hospital this weekend but is still “very, very sore,” Williams added. The man who allegedly struck Donovan with his vehicle, David Angelini, 38, of 14 Orchard Lane, was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery and resisting arrest.Police said Donovan was trying to take Angelini out of his car when Angelini put the car into drive in an attempt to flee. A police cruiser was behind Angelini’s car, which prompted him to drive forward and rammed the officer against a tree numerous times, police said.
