LYNN-After a rash of BB gun attacks on people and property over the past two weeks in Lynn, police are sending a strong message to those who think their paths of destruction are simply fun and games.”Each time someone’s property is damaged, the individuals responsible are committing a felony,” Lynn police spokesperson Lt. Dave Brown said Monday, less than 12 hours after five incidents were reported Sunday night. At about 8 p.m. Sunday, a Merrill Avenue resident thought a bullet pierced his living room window when he heard glass shatter. It turned out the damage was not caused from a bullet, but by a BB pellet, police said.Ten minutes later, on nearby Burrill Avenue, a resident reported that a BB was shot through the window of his parked car. Another automobile vandalism incident caused by a BB was reported on Burrill Avenue at about 7:40 p.m.No arrests were made Sunday. This weekend’s incidents came on the heels of several others over the past couple weeks, including one incident on Nov. 25 when four youths were charged with shooting people and cars with BBs from a moving vehicle.Shimyer Jayfen Volquez, 18, of 11 South St. #2, Ramer Soto, 19, of 16 Shepard St. #1 and two juveniles were arrested and charged with various assault and malicious destruction of property charges after their alleged vandalism spree lasted over two hours. The group was accused of shooting a couple as they walked down Essex Street near Rockaway Street. Both victims said they were hit several times with the projectiles and the female complained of back pain, police said.”If someone were to be injured by the BB, they could face more serious charges,” Brown said. “We are asking residents to contact police if they have knowledge of anyone who may have been using a BB gun in such a manner.”
