PEABODY-Police are investigating a massive theft that occurred Sunday morning at Rio Brazilian Fashions at 9 Central St.Lt. Dennis Bonaiuto, spokesperson for Peabody police, said “tens of thousands of dollars” worth of jewelry was taken in the 3 a.m. theft.Police responded to the store moments after a burglar alarm was activated near the front of the business. When police arrived, they found the front door window completely smashed. The door was still boarded up Monday while the business was open.Rio Brazilian Fashions sells 18K gold jewelry, women’s and men’s clothing, shoes, perfumes, airline tickets and even conducts Western Union money transfers.Bonaiuto said police are concerned, as they are in most break-ins, because of the amount of harm the thieves cause to innocent people.”Quite a bit of property was stolen,” Bonaiuto said. “They usually don’t stop until they’re caught.”The shop’s owner could not be reached for comment on Monday.
