PEABODY-A Peabody police spokesperson said Thursday a Peabody High School student is still in a Boston hospital following a sudden collapse in the classroom on Wednesday.The 16-year-old boy, who police declined to identify, collapsed without warning inside a classroom around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.When police arrived, officers performed first aid until the fire department and paramedics arrived. The child was unconscious and unresponsive.Police believe the collapse happened because of a pre-existing medical condition.”It does not appear to be substance related, either to alcohol or drugs,” said police spokesperson Lt. Dennis Bonaiuto.Teachers immediately called 911.”The staff at the high school did an excellent job,” Bonaiuto said.
