SSC men’s basketball defeats UMass-Boston

The Salem State College men’s basketball team jumped out to a 47-24 halftime lead and never looked back en route to a 97-64 non-conference win over the Beacons of the University of Massachusetts-Boston Thursday at James Twohig Gymnasium. SSC (6-1) has now won four straight.SSC received a team-high 24 points in just 17 minutes of action from senior guard Alex Finn who continues to light up the scoreboard with his hot outside shooting. Finn, who was chosen co-Player of the Week by the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) after leading the Vikings to a pair of victories last week, came off the bench and shot 9-for-12 from the field against the Beacons, including 6-for-9 from three-point land.Also making solid contributions for the Vikings were senior guard Marquis Victor and junior wing Ricky Ogboin, who scored 14 each. Junior center Dylan Holmes added a dozen points and six rebounds. Ogboin and sophomore center Tommy Henderson each pulled down a team-leading seven boards. Henderson also registered a team-high three blocks in just 11 minutes of playing time.The Beacons (1-7) were led by senior forward Amigo Paniagua, who poured in a game-high 27 points to go along with a game-high 14 rebounds.SSC’s next game will be Saturday, Dec. 8, when the Vikings host Gordon College for a 4 p.m. non-conference game at James Twohig Gymnasium.
