St. Mary’s athletic director Jeff Newhall met with those involved in the tournament on Monday to work out a few remaining details.Play begins on Thursday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. when the Tech girls play English. The St. Mary-Classical girls follow at 3:30 p.m., and at 5 p.m., it’s Tech vs. English (boys). The final game of the night will be Classical vs. St. Mary’s (boys) at 6:30 p.m.The two-day tournament will wrap up on Friday, Dec. 28, with the girls consolation game at 2 p.m., followed by the boys consolation game at 3:30 p.m. The girls championship game is at 5 p.m., followed by the boys championship game at 6:30 p.m.”As always, I think we’ll see two great days of basketball,” Newhall said. “We’re very excited at St. Mary’s to be hosting the tournament for the first time.”Newhall said the tournament has evolved into what everyone wanted it to be when it was put together four years ago.”After the tournament, you have a definitive girls and boys city champion,” he said. “It’s excellent competition for all four schools.”The proceeds from the event go toward scholarships from all four schools.
