LynnBy Dan BaerThe Daily ItemWith rising heating and utility costs adding to an already difficult financial time of year for some families, even the most well behaved children are sometimes left off Santa’s list.Jessica, a sixth grader from Lynn, realizes the struggle her family is going through, and she is hoping that Item Santa volunteers can bring joy to her three siblings this year by providing some gifts to place under the tree. The family is very involved in the neighborhood community, with Jessica and her brother Chad, and sisters Ruby and Claire attending church each Saturday and Sunday. Their father is a preacher at the church, and Jessica says her family is always trying to help others, despite their hardships.Jessica is no exception, in a letter to Item Santa, the sixth grader details the gifts her siblings dream of each night, and expresses gratitude to everyone that is helping out families in need this year.Ruby is seven years old, and is in need of safety equipment so that she can ride her bike. She does not have a helmet, knee or wrist pads. The family does not have a pet, but Ruby has had her eye on an electronic puppy that has realistic movements to fill the void.Jessica’s older sister, Claire, is interested in science, and would benefit from a chemistry kit to help her with school. She is also interested in magic and would like a spy or magic kit to practice her hobby.Chad is not old enough to attend school, but he loves all sports and riding his friend’s scooter. He, too, does not have any protective gear, and would really enjoy a scooter of his own.Jessica and her siblings are trying hard every day to find themselves on Santa’s good list, but understand that their struggling family may not be able to provide a wealth of gifts this year. Despite their hardships, they continue to use their faith and family bond to make it through hard times, and sacrifice for their neighbors whenever they can.The family would appreciate any help they can get from the community that they are very much a part of.”Thank you, thank you, thank you to Item Santa,” Jessica wrote. “Thank you for giving us a happy Christmas, and I hope that everyone else has a wonderful Christmas too.”To make a donation to Item Santa, clip the coupon in today’s Item or download one and mail it, along with your check, to The Item Salvation Army Santa, P.O.
