Chris Muldoon scored 15 points to lead the St. Mary’s High boys basketball team to a 65-62 win over North Cambridge Catholic Monday at Tony Conigliaro Gymnasium.Muldoon caught fire in the first half to keep the Spartans in the hunt. He finished with five threes. John Bakopolus was right behind him with 14 points and Tyler Grillo netted 13 points. Nick Conti pulled down a clutch rebound with four seconds remaining and St. Mary’s leading by a mere two points. The Spartans also enjoyed a strong performance by Alex Mitchell, who had eight rebounds to go with 10 points.The Spartans (3-0, 2-0 Catholic Central League) play Cardinal Spellman at home Friday.GIRLS HOCKEYSt. Mary’s 7, Mt. The score was only 2-0 after two periods, but a five-goal third put things away.”We came out a little slow, but as the game went on, we got refocused,” St. Mary’s coach Frank Pagliuca said.Gauthier made it 1-0 in the first period and Courtney White made it 2-0 after two. The floodgates opened in the third with goals by Gauthier, Bridget Donovan, Hart, Caitlin Gottwald and Bridget Mini. The Mt. A.J. Parker had the Midas touch with a hat trick and an assist. James Noftle had two goals and an assist with the other Peabody goals coming from Zak Brown and Matt Rodgers.The win was particularly sweet for the Tanners because they came back from a 3-1 second-period deficit and because it marked the first time Peabody has defeated the Mustangs in 22 years (they have had ties).”It was a good way to bounce back from a tough loss on Saturday.
