Lynn mom, 2 kids to spend Christmas in family shelter

December 19, 2007 by Curran Konarski

LYNN – For some of us this year, the holidays will not be celebrated at home. Instead, it may be had in a homeless shelter. While most of us have a humble abode to gather together in, others meet with friends and loved ones under another’s roof, or never meet at all.And while this may be a less than satisfactory situation for those of us living alone, it is disappointing and almost humiliating for someone raising two children.Mary, a Lynn resident, is one such person anticipating a not so merry Christmas. Currently, she is living in a family shelter while raising two children. The usual payments required for her family’s monthly existence have left her with little to no spending money. That is preventing her and her children from having the merry Christmas most of us are privileged with annually. All that she wants is for her children to experience a holiday like the ones you used to know, or still do. She believes they deserve something in return for all the gifts that they have continuously given to her throughout the years.Mary referred to her complex problem in simple terms, “I need your help because I’m currently living at a family shelter with my two children, and I have no money for gifts.”As simple as her statement is, so too will be the Item Santa’s response. For every cent donated by you to Item Santa, a portion will be spent on gifts for Mary and her children.Year after year, distressed people like Mary receive welcomed aid from Item Santa so that countless families within the area can enjoy Christmas like it is supposed to be had.To make a donation to Item Santa, clip the coupon in today’s Item or download one and mail it, along with your check, to The Item Salvation Army Santa, P.O. Box 951, Lynn, MA 01903.For more information, call the Salvation Army at 781-598-0673.
