PEABODY-In the aftermath of Thursday?s and Sunday?s storms, fire hydrants across the city have been buried beneath large piles of snow. With another snowfall expected for later this week, the Department of Public Services (DPS) would like to do their best to uncover these hydrants before matters get worse. The Fire Department will begin digging out fire hydrants Wednesday during the morning, all-day Thursday, and again on Friday morning.Crews from the DPS will dig out hydrants under larger snow banks that the fire department would not be able to dig out themselves. With over 1,500 hydrants throughout the city, Fire Chief Steven Pasdon and Director of Public Services Dick Carnevale ask residents to help dig out their hydrant if possible.?Any digging out you do is appreciated and improves the public safety for the area,” said Carnevale in a letter to the City Clerk. Please contact Public Services at 978-536-0600, if you know of any hydrants that need to be taken care of, so the city can arrange a time for them to be cleared.
