REVERE-An illegal immigrant and MS-13 gang member who beat his then-17-year-old girlfriend at a Dehon Street home so severely last June that she became permanently disfigured was sentenced to three years in prison before facing deportation proceedings, the Suffolk Country District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.Jorge Granados, 28, of Chelsea, pleaded guilty in Suffolk Superior Court to a long list of assault charges, including aggravated assault and battery and kidnapping. His fellow gang member, Eduardo Ramirez, 19, of Revere, is expected to appear in court next month to face charges in connection to the incident, according to Suffolk DA spokesperson Erika Gully-Santiago.After serving his three-year prison term, Granados will begin a three-year probation term and deportation proceedings in hopes that he will be sent back to his native El Salvador, Gully-Santiago said. Superior Court Judge Carol Ball also ordered Granados to enroll and complete a certified batterer’s intervention program, submit to alcohol treatment and abide by restraining orders.Prosecutors say that, had the case gone to trial, evidence would have shown that on the evening of June 15, 2007, Granados, Ramirez the victim and several other people were socializing at a home on Dehon Street when Granados became enraged at the 17-year-old victim, who he was dating at the time, when he suspected that she had kissed another man who was in the apartment. When the victim denied the accusation, Granados allegedly got up and punched the victim in the right eye, bruising her retina and causing swelling. He then kicked her in the crotch area before dragging her down three flights of stairs to the ground level where he kicked her on the right side of her face, prosecutors said. The brutality didn’t stop there.Granados then allegedly punched the left side of the victim’s face with such force that she fell to the ground. While on the ground, Granados kicked her in the mouth, causing the frenulum – the elastic that connects the lip to the upper mouth – to tear, according to authorities. After the beating, he dragged her bruised body down Dehon Street to Nahant Street, where he held her against her will under the back porch of a home on Nahant Street in an effort to hide from Revere Police officers, prosecutors said.Granados then punched her again on the right eye and instructed her to tell police that someone from a rival gang beat her, authorities said.”The Bloods did this to you. I didn’t do this to you, because I’m not going to jail for no [expletive],” Granados allegedly told the victim. “If you rat me out, I will find you and kill you.”The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where she was treated for extensive physical injuries that have since left her permanently scarred. In a victim impact statement provided to the court, the victim wrote, “Had it not been for the neighbors calling, I know I would be dead. My mouth and face have large scar tissue lumps in them that when I smile disfigures my face. What these men did to me has affected me and my family negatively forever. I will hopefully one day be able to sleep through the night without yelling out in my sleep for help. These men deserve in my opinion the most severe punishment they can get, and that will still not be enough for what they did.”(Information in this article was provided by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office)
