State Police will set up a sobriety checkpoint on a secondary state highway at an undisclosed location in Essex County on the night of Thursday, Dec. 27 and into the morning of Friday, Dec. 28.Another checkpoint will be set up on a secondary highway at an undisclosed location in Suffolk County on the night of Friday, Dec. 28 and into the morning of Saturday, Dec. 29.The purpose of the checkpoint is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways, State Police said.The checkpoint will be operated during varied hours. The selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured and any inconvenience to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety, State Police said in a statement.For more information, visit www.mass.gov/msp.
