Swampscott administrator gets high marks on review

SWAMPSCOTT-Town Administrator Andrew Maylor received high marks on his latest performance review from selectmen.He scored highest for fiscal management, intergovernmental relations and personnel management.Maylor, the town’s first administrator, started his position in October 2002. His initial five-year contract was set to expire in October 2007, but he was given a three-year extension.Maylor was rated by selectmen in 10 performance areas on a scale of 0 to 5, with 5 being excellent.He scored a 4.7 in the area of community acceptance, which selectmen noted was borne out by a lack of dissension when his contract was renegotiated and extended.For budgeting and financial administration, he received a score of 5.0. Selectmen noted Maylor’s ability to find creative solutions during difficult fiscal times. One selectman noted the town administrator’s skills have increased credibility in the budget process.Maylor also received a 5 for personnel administration. In the summary of his evaluation, he was credited for the town’s low employee turnover. One selectman also noted department heads are working together well as a result of Maylor’s leadership.Maylor received a 4.75 in the supervision/leadership category. Items noted on the review included ability to tackle difficult issues and lead by example.He was rated as very good (4.67) in the area of staff development and in the comments portion of the evaluation, one selectmen wrote, “Town Hall runs very well under Andrew’s leadership.”His lowest score, a 4.0 out of a possible 5, was for his interaction with members of the Board of Selectmen, although in the comments it was noted Maylor is readily accessible and communicates well.Maylor also received high scores in staff development, public relations/community acceptance, labor relations, police execution and productivity. The results of his annual evaluation are in line with those conducted in previous years.
