School Roundup: Clifford lifts Fenwick boys hoop

It may be early in the season, but it is still a long way to travel for the first win of the season. Riding out to Bolton for the Nashoba Holiday Tournament, Bishop Fenwick received a massive game from Mike Clifford in a 71-47 win over Shawsheen.Clifford put up 31 points for the Crusaders (1-2); Nolan DiPanfilo added 18 points and four assists. Fenwick led 37-23 at the half.Lynnfield 74, Triton 54At Byfield, Mike Kennedy scored 41 points to lead the Pioneers to their first win of the season. Kennedy put up 29 in the first half and rested most of the fourth quarter for Lynnfield (1-4).GIRLS BASKETBALLGloucester 49, Marian 30At Framingham, Gloucester enjoyed a big afternoon from Hannah Cain, who scored 14 points as the Fishermen doubled up their hosts by halftime and cruised to their third win of the season.Triton 51, Beverly 42At Beverly, the Panthers’ Jen Ashton led all scorers with 14 points. Still, the effort did not translate into a win. In the loss for Beverly (1-4), Alex Vavladellis had a good game, recording 10 steals and chipping in five points.GIRLS TRACKMarblehead 54, Revere 31At Revere, the Magician winners were: Maggie McMullen, high jump (4-7); Katherine Slattery, 50 hurdles (8.0); Jess Sasso, 50 (6.8); Mary Keroack, 300 (41.5); Sarah Bitterman, 600 (1:43.5); Amy Federman, 1,000 (3:22.9); and Julia Moulton, 2-mile (14:44.1). Patriot winners were: Kandace Flaherty, shot put (24-11.5); and Colby Hough, mile (6:15.9).Saugus 60, English 24At Revere, Alyssa Williamson and Elizabeth Shaw led the Sachems to their second win of the season. Williamson won the high jump (4-7) and 300 (44.2). Shaw took the shot put (26-9.5) and 50 (6.9). Also winning for Saugus were: Jessica Capozzi, 50 hurdles (6.9); Erin Donahue, 1,000 (3:08.8); and Jillian Howell, 2 mile (14:05.1).The Bulldogs had two winners: Jenna Henry, 600 (1:48.9), and Shawna Henry, mile (6:16.2).Beverly 57, Danvers 29At Danvers, the Panthers (3-0) had six individual winners: Katie Vonzweck, high jump (4-9); Nicki Lemelin, 50 hurdles (8.1); Helen Amore, 50 (6.7); Marrianna Diamaggio, 300 (41.8); Monica Adler, mile (5:25.5); and Kasey Kluge, 2-mile (11:55.5).Winning for the Falcons (who absorbed their first loss) were: Dana Harvey, shot put (28-11.5); Katelyn Hartnett, 600 (1:32.2); and Christina Kaczynski, 1,000 (2:48.8).SWIMMINGBeverly 90, Peabody 82At Beverly, the Tanners (0-2) had wins from Mike Diaz in the 50 free and Steve Maruzzi in the 100 free. The two also teamed with Brittani Atkinson and Kate Fitzgerald to win the 400 free relay.
