SWAMPSCOTT-The spring semester of day classes at Marian Court College starts on Jan. 23 and a new session of evening classes starts on Jan. 28.Marian Court College Vice-President of Advancement and Enrollment Gretchen Manning said it’s not too late for students to enroll in spring classes.?We have many students who start with us January,” she said. “It could be that the larger college environment or far-from-home school wasn’t the right fit for a student, or that circumstances made it difficult to start in the fall.”Manning said Marian Court College offers the benefits of a private school including small classes, individualized attention along with telecommuting options.?That combination works well for many people,” she said.On Jan. 26, Marian Court College is launching its new dental office manager program, which is a college program that is currently not offered anywhere else in the country.Ronald T. Plotka, who was recently appointed to the Marian Court College Board of Trustees, is serving as the executive director of the new Advanced Dental Education Institute at Marian Court College.?It’s a very exciting program,” he said. “This is the first program of its kind and it’s never been done in dentistry before. The program was just endorsed by the Massachusetts Dental Society.”Plotka, who is in private practice at the North Shore Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, Inc. in Swampscott, knows all too well the problem dentists encounter trying to hire qualified office managers.?When you graduate from dental school you know about dentistry,” he said. “You don’t know anything about business and finding good office help is a challenge for every dentist.Marian Court College President Ghazi Darkazalli, who has been with the college for nine months, said this program is the beginning of a larger concentration in dental services that would be offered at the college.Darkazalli said the college also plans to add dental assistant and dental hygienist programs in the future.Other areas of study currently available at Marian Court College include accounting, business management, computer forensics, computer graphic design, criminal justice administration, fashion merchandising, hospitality management, marketing, medical office administration, paralegal studies and sports management.There will be an open house on Jan. 9 from 6-8 p.m., which will include a brief overview of the college and tours of the campus.
