LYNN – Drivers beware.Repairs on the northbound side of the Lynnway will continue to snarl traffic through Saturday, according to the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA).In a statement released Thursday evening, EOEA said only one lane of traffic will be open while crews continue to make emergency repairs.Workers are reportedly laboring around the clock to fix the road damaged by a large water main break on Dec. 30.The break, which occurred at the intersection of Marine Boulevard and Shephard Street, turned the heavily trafficked road into a pond as hundreds of gallons of water six to eight inches deep filled the roadway, making it difficult for drivers to navigate.During the ongoing repairs, traffic will be open from Commercial Street to Shephard Street on the Lynnway. In addition, the EOEA warned drivers about possible icing on southbound traffic lanes at Shephard Street.James Woodbury of the Lynn Water and Sewer Department said businesses on the Lynnway have been ringing the phone off of the hook the past few days asking when the repairs would be complete.”The place is just a mess and the businesses are upset, but all that I can tell them is that we’re still working on it,” he said. “The guys are out there now in the cold and they’re trying to get it done as quick as possible.”Woodbury said crews should be finished relatively soon unless they encounter additional pipes in need of repair on the roadway. The water main break was the third to occur in the month of December.
