REVERE-A 24-year-old Revere man might have joined the ranks of World’s Dumbest Criminals after he allegedly stole a police car Sunday a short time after an officer left the keys in the vehicle.State Police stopped Donald Desimone in Malden driving the cruiser about an hour after he allegedly snatched it.Police say he gave an interesting response when asked why he stole the police car.”He said something along the lines of, ?I wanted to be a police man, even for just an hour,'” Police Capt. Michael Murphy said.Murphy says an officer went into the police station around 11:30 p.m. Sunday after leaving the car running with his keys in the cruiser. When the officer returned, car number 113 and a bag belonging to the officer inside the car were missing, police said. After State Police recovered the cruiser, the only damage found was a broken window.Desimone was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and other unspecified charges, according to State Police. The theft marks at least the second time a Revere police car was stolen since July. On July 1, Joseph J. McCusker, 45, of 47 Liberty Ave., Revere, was allegedly caught by police breaking into a Sprague Street home when he ran at an officer with a knife and stole his police car before crashing it on Central Avenue. McCusker was later apprehended by a group of over 50 citizens on Broadway who witnessed him running away from police.
