School Roundup: Swampscott boys track defeats Saugus

The Swampscott High boys track team topped Saugus, 46-35, Wednesday at Swampscott.The Big Blue swept the 600, led by Andrew Keeter (1:35.7), Jake Scott and Matt Gadman. Swampscott also had firsts from Danny Do, 55-meter hurdles (9.0); Spencer Shonio, 300 (38.8); Chris Heller, mile (4:51.5); and James Keeter, 2-mile (11:09.1).Saugus had winning performances by Matt Guarente, high jump (6-1); Paul Doucette, shot put (39-9); Josh Hollett, 55 meters (6.9) and Jason Guarente, 1,000 (2:52.9). Saugus is 2-2, 0-2 NEC Small. Swampscott is 1-4, 1-3 NEC Small.Peabody 64, Beverly 22At Swampscott, the Tanners (3-0, 2-0 NEC Large) won every event except the relay. Michael Bernangiri won the high jump (5-11); Kevin Bettencourt, shot put (44-10 1/4); Dulu Gaye, 55 hurdles (8.4); Jimmy Maheras, 55 meters (6.6); Derek Gomes, 300 (39.6); Ryan Conrad, 600 (1:28.6); Joshua Band, 1,000 (2:43.1); Alex Games, mile (4:48.5); and Sean Ouellette, 2-mile (11:01.4).Revere 72, Classical 14At Marblehead, Jaquan Huston won the 300 (41.3) and took second in the high jump (5-7), but Revere dominated the rest of the meet. Ricardo Zegara was a double winner for the Patriots with firsts in the high jump (5-7) and the 55 hurdles (8.5).Marblehead 50, Danvers 36At Marblehead, the Magicians (4-0) picked up wins from Jacob Evanter, 55 hurdles (8.8); Mike Sahagian, 55 dash (7.6); Dan November, 600 (1:34); Andrew Graf, 1,000 (2:56); Tyler Smith, mile (5:06); and Tucker Reese, 2-mile (11:17). Evanter, Sahagian, Smith, Reese and November are all undefeated in their events this season.Danvers (3-2, 3-1 NEC Small) had wins from Kevin Gable in the high jump (6-3); Patrick Hennessey in the shot put (39-5); and Chris Ciampa in the 300 (40.6).Tech 39, No. Shore 31At Tech, David Dar won the high hurdles (7.7) and the high jump (5-2) and was on the winning mile relay team with J.R. Rios, Ramon Ramos and James Bradley. Ramos also won the 50 (6.0) and Rios the 300 (37.2). Aloysius Fonta won the 600 (1:42). The Tigers are 2-0.GIRLS TRACKRevere 72, Classical 14At Marblehead, Brittani Barrett won the 55 hurdles for the Rams (11.1) and Jill Adams the 55 (8.2), but it was all Revere the rest of the way. Jamie Anderson was a double winner for the Patriots with firsts in the high jump (4-9) and the 300 (48.1).Swampscott 48, Saugus 33At Swampscott, Kelly Walton was a double winner for the Big Blue (3-2, 2-1 NEC Small). She took first in the shot put (25-10 1/2) and in the 1,000 (3:19.5). Swampscott also had wins from Sara Sharp, 55 hurdles (10.8); Erica Mazman, 330 meters (46.0); Lindsay Walsh, mile (5:39.5); and Amelia Antrim, 2-mile (12:56). Saugus had wins from Alyssa Williamson in the high jump (4-11); Elizabeth Shaw, 55 (8.0); and Janelle Bean, 600 (1:48).Danvers 49, Marblehead 37At Marblehead, the Falcons pulled a win out of their hats over the hosting Magicians. Winning for Marblehead (3-1) were Maggie McMullen, hurdles (9.9); Jess Sasso, 55 (7.9); and Katherine Slattery, 300 (45.9). McMullen also placed second in the high jump (4-9).Beverly 48, Peabody 38At Swampscott, Peabody (2-1, 1-1 NEC Large) came up short despite wins from Joanna Chanaj in the high jump (4-11); Rachel Orlowski, shot put (30-10 1/4); Pinky Ratanajit, 55 (7.5); and Andrea Saccardo, 600 (1:48.3).BASKETBALLMalden 53, St. Mary’s 46At Lynn, the hosting Spartans could not manage to keep up with their visitors as a game tied at 25 at the half turned into a loss.
