SALEM-A Chelsea man who admitted he burglarized an apartment on Common Street in Lynn last year stealing gold jewelry received 7 to 10 years in state prison.Roberto Sanchez, 33, of 88 Grove St., pleaded guilty Friday afternoon in Salem Superior Court to breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony and larceny over $250 before Judge David A. Lowy. When Sanchez gets out of prison, he will be on probation for another five years. It was shortly before noon on March 7 when the homeowner returned to her apartment at 234 Common St., and heard someone running from her apartment and immediately called police.Authorities responding to the scene found Sanchez nearby walking down the street.Jewelry, later identified by the homeowner was found on his person by police.Assistant District Attorney Marsha H. Slingerland sought the sentence imposed by the judge.Defense lawyer Mark Schmidt felt a shorter term of four years with probation was more “appropriate.”A third charge against Sanchez for receiving stolen property was dropped as part of the plea concession. The judge credited Sanchez the 305 days he has spent in jail awaiting trial.
