Girls basketball: Anderson’s 30 helps English win

Jeanette Anderson poured in a game-high 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the English High girls basketball team to an easy 75-55 win over Saugus, at Saugus High, Friday night.Jenicia Duggins added 16 points while Olivia Dupree scored a career high 10 points and 12 rebounds to aid the Bulldogs (8-1).Liz Dean (11 points) was the only Saugus player who scored in double figures.English cruised to a 12-point lead at the end of the first quarter.”We played very well defensively early in the game,” English coach Fred Hogan said. “They (Saugus) fought back pretty well.”They made a couple of good runs in the second half.”The Bulldogs have a showdown with Swampscott (9-1) on Tuesday at English.Winthrop 53, Salem 46At Winthrop, the game was tied after three quarters, but the Vikings (7-1) out-scored the Witches, 18-11, the rest of the way.Courtney Finn led all scorers with 20 points for Winthrop, while Nicole Gianquinto had 14 and Katerina Mallios added 10.Ashley White and Luijana Rijo paced Salem with 13 points each.Winthrop travels to Classical on Tuesday.Fenwick 56, St. Mary’s 35At Peabody, Fenwick (6-4) led box to wire and picked up its fifth win in a row.Amy Pelletier led the Crusaders with 16 points, while Bria Tiro added 12 and Lizzie Trainor chipped in with 10.Tori Faieta led all scorers with 17 points for the Spartans (5-7). She added 14 rebounds and six blocks.Peabody 64, Danvers 45At Danvers, the Tanners (8-1, 7-0 NEC) were able to pull away late from the pesky Falcons. Tawny Palmieri led the Peabody offense, which saw nine different players record points, with a game-high 16 points.Michelle Grifoni added 15 for the victors.Danielle Sherry led Danvers with 13 points while Erica Veilleux and Kelly McDonald had 12 points apiece.Revere 43, Marblehead 38At Marblehead, the Patriots (3-6) led most of the way in this one. Christina Cavagnaro led the Patriots with a game-high 15 points.Tech 66, Whittier 52At Tech, Jessica Underwood (17 points), Katrinan Freeman (17) and Zuleika Lopez (16) were the big guns as the Tigers (3-3, 3-1) pulled away in the fourth quarter for the win.”They made a run at us in the third quarter, and then Jessica and Zuleika went to work,” Tech coach John Crowley said.”Octavia Harper had seven fourth-quarter rebounds for Tech.
