School Roundup: English boys hoop can’t catch Lowell

The Lynn English boys basketball team got 19 points from Eugene Turner and 17 from Jeremy Subervi, but it wasn’t enough against a tough Red Raiders team in a 78-68 loss at Lowell on Saturday. Charlie Rucker had 15 for English in the loss.”We made a run,” English coach Buzzy Barton said. “We played hard, but came up short to a good team.”Turner had 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs (8-2), who trailed 40-37 at halftime.Salem 70, Haverhill 42At Haverhill, the Witches picked up their fifth win in a row. Junior Lugo led the Salem offense with 15 points while Bryan Ortiz chipped in with 10. Salem is 5-3 (4-3 NEC).GIRLS TRACKRevere 57, Salem 29The Revere girls track team got its first win of the season on Saturday.The Patriots (1-3) won all but one event. Jamie Anderson won the high jump (4-7); Kandance Flaherty, shot put (26-7 1/2); Victoria DeVincent, 50 hurdles (9.4); Jamie Anderson, 300 (43.2); Jessica Simpson, 600 (1:48.1); Tylor Hough, 1,000 (3:03.5); Colby Hough, mile (5:57.6); and Kasandra Digitale, 2-mile (14:21.2).BOYS TRACKRevere 47, Salem 39Revere winners were: Ricardo Zegara, high jump (5-7); Manny Velez, shot put (44 7 3/4); Zegara, 50 hurdles (7.2); John Driscoll, 300 (35.8); and Stephen Armstrong, 2-mile (11:29.3).
