LYNN – The Lynn Rotary Club donated more than 1,000 dictionaries to the city’s third graders Wednesday as part of its annual community project.Rotary Club President Mark Kennard, Vice President Michele Desmarais and Superintendent Nicholas Kostan paid a visit to the Connery School on Elm Street, and took the time to present the dictionaries and show students how to use them.”This is the second year we have donated the dictionaries, it is a worthwhile project to help the school system,” Kennard said. “I didn’t know if students in this era still used dictionaries, but I guess they do. They were really excited to get them and use them.”Kennard’s brief lesson explained how to look up words for spelling and definition, and impressed Kostan enough to urge the Rotary president to consider changing careers.”Mark does such a good job with the kids I suggested he take a teaching job,” Kostan joked. “But I do want to thank the Rotary Club for all of the positive work that they do for the schools. Each year they step up and do anything they can to help Lynn Public Schools.”In all, representatives visited 11 elementary schools in the city throughout the day, and say every third-grader should go home this week with a dictionary. The Lynn Rotary Club is a community service club that meets Thursday afternoons at 1:15 at the Porthole Pub. All members of the community are encouraged to attend a meeting and consider joining the organization. The annual Rotary Club fundraiser will take place April 5 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
