School Roundup: Swampscott girls defeat Winthrop

The Swampscott girls track team topped Winthrop, 49-37, Wednesday at Swampscott.Kellie McHugh was a double winner for the Big Blue with firsts in the high jump (4-10) and the 55-meter dash (7.7).Kelly Walton also picked up a pair of firsts, one in the mile (5:46.8) and the other in the shot put. Swampscott is 1-4, 1-3 in the Northeastern Conference, and Winthrop is 2-3, 0-4 NEC.Revere 57, English 29At Swampscott, Jamie Anderson won the 300 (47.7) and the high jump (4-6) to help Revere to a win. Bianca Flower won the 55 (7.8) for English and took second in the high jump (4-4).BOYS TRACKSwampscott 58, Winthrop 16At Swampscott, the Big Blue picked up their first win. Among the top finishers were Spencer Shonio in the 55 (6.7) and Chris Heller in the 1,000. Swampscott had eight first-place finishers.Revere 60, English 12At Swampscott, English’s Julio Arzu won the 55 and teammate Camy Ducasse took first in the 300. Revere won the remaining events with sweeps in the high jump, 55 hurdles, mile and 2-mile.Peabody 70, Salem 16At Beverly, the Tanners improved to 3-0 overall with wins in all but one event. Among the top finishers for Peabody were Michael Berlangieri in the high jump, Dulu Gaye in the 50 hurdles and Chris Lawrence, who nipped Salem’s Mike Steeves in the mile.Beverly 79, Classical 7At Beverly, the Panthers won every event, but the Rams did have a couple of strong finishes. Sam Smith was second in the shot put, Desmont Avery, third in the 50 hurdles, and Jaquan Huston, second in the 300.Gr. Lawrence 64, Tech 27At Tech, the Tigers (3-1) had second-place finishes from David Dar, high hurdles (7.9) and high jump (5-2); Ramon Ramos, 50 (5.6); J.R. Rios, 300 (39.2); and Erichson Seang, shot put (32-7).SWIMMINGShawsheen 89, Tech 81At Shawsheen, the Tigers (1-5) took two firsts, Matt Noonan in the 200 free (2:44.6) and Marcus Castellano in diving (153.4). Castellano is undefeated in diving this season.WRESTLINGSt. John’s 36, Cath. Mem. 29At Danvers, the Prep continued its winning ways on Wednesday in a close contest with the Scarlet Knights. Winning for St. John’s (16-3) were Ryan Morello, 103; Ryan Harding, 135; Kelly Johnson, 140; James Gibbons, 152; Dan Marden, 171; Pat Higgins, 215; and Kevin Poplaski, HW.
