A sparkling performance by goalie Craig Forrest, combined with a third-period scoring spree, helped lift the Bishop Fenwick boys hockey team to a 6-0 win over Swampscott Monday at McVann-O’Keefe Rink.The Big Blue came into the game riding a four-game winning streak, but the Crusaders weren’t deterred. The game was scoreless for just over a period and a half when third-line player Louie Williams was tripped on a breakaway. Williams was awarded a penalty shot, and he didn’t disappoint. His goal proved to be the game-winner, although the Crusaders added five more before the final buzzer sounded.Swampscott (7-4-3, 4-3-3 Northeastern Conference) kept Forrest busy all night, peppering him with 44 shots, but nothing found the back of the net. The Crusaders held the line defensively on five or six power-play chances by the Big Blue.The penalty shot seemed to jump-start the Fenwick offense, because less than a minute later, Pat Doliber (2 goals, 2 assists) scored. He netted his second of the night less than two minutes into the third period for a 3-0 lead. The Crusaders put the game out of reach on two goals by John Luti and one by Dale Crispin, who also had two assists.”This was a huge victory for us,” Fenwick coach Bob Tierney said. “We did a lot of little things right. This was a win we needed.”Fenwick is 5-3-1, 3-1 Catholic Central League.”We ran into a hot goalie,” Swampscott coach Gino Faia said, adding that things started to go south after the penalty shot.Marblehead 3, Shawsheen 0At Billerica, Jackson Barber scored in the first period to put the Magicians (6-7, 3-7 Northeastern Conference) on the board, and then made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal in the third. Anders Gundersen rushed the length of the ice and scored an unassisted goal for the 3-0 final. Aaron Reny (27 saves) was in net.”The kids played hard and aggressive in the second and third period. They started to eliminate some of the mistakes,” Marblehead coach Bob Jackson said.In other boys hockey action, Beverly lost to Westford Academy, 9-1, and Danvers defeated Concord-Carlisle, 5-2.GIRLS HOCKEYMarblehead 5, Westford Academy 2At The Groton School, Ashley White had two goals and an assist to power the Magicians (7-3-1) to a win. Kelsey Magrane and Kayla Shinnick split the game in net.
