SWAMPSCOTT – A Swampscott High School student has been summoned to court on felony charges in connection with a bomb threat made at the high school last week.According to Police Chief Ronald Madigan, a male caller called in a bomb threat to the high school on Friday, Jan. 18. Madigan said the caller left the threat on the answering machine in the high school office at approximately 7 a.m. and the message was retrieved at approximately 7:55 p.m.Superintendent Matthew Malone said police were able to trace the phone call to the cellular telephone of the parent of one of the students.Malone said the student was questioned by police and admitted making the call.”He has been suspended indefinitely and an expulsion hearing has been set up,” he said.Detective Rose Cheever, who is the school resource officer, said the juvenile was summoned to court on the felony charge of calling in a false bomb report and disturbing a school assembly.According to Essex County District Attorney’s Office Spokesman Steve O’Connell, calling in a false bomb threat could carry maximum penalties of up to two and a half years in the House of Corrections or up to 20 years in state prison.
