Middle School Basketball Roundup: Marshall boys prevail against Ford

The Thurgood Marshall Middle School boys basketball team pulled out a thriller, 65-63, over Ford Middle School Thursday at Marshall.Michael Duarte continued to light it up for Marshall with 25 points. Keandre Stanton had 22 points and Gibron Morillo had 14 points. Ford got off a shot with time running out to try to send the game into overtime, but it rolled around the rim and out.Omar Nyang led Ford with 19 points. Dayzell Love had 18 points and Irving Terrero added 17 points. Both teams are 6-1. Marshall is at Revere Monday and Marblehead travels to Ford.In other boys middle school action, Leo Torres scored 31 points to lead Pickering past Breed, 64-50, at Breed. Torres had 14 assists and 11 rebounds for the triple-double. The Tigers also benefited from strong defensive play by Cam Borden, Brenden Dean, Eric Holey and Brendan Holey. Jake Fay (18 points) and E.J. Ward (13 points) played well for Breed.In middle school girls action, Pickering defeated Breed, 51-27. Courtney Butler had a season-high 16 points for the Tigers (5-2). Katie Cuozzo and Tressa White added four points each in the win. Monta Connolly scored 11 and Amy O’Brien had 6 for the Bobcats. Pickering plays Saugus at home and Breed visits Gloucester on Monday.In other action, the Ford girls improved to 2-5 with a 26-21 win over Marshall at Marshall. Rashida Ellis had 10 points for Ford. Danesha Brown added eight points and Deidre Newson had six.
