The St. Mary’s girls basketball team lost to Archbishop Williams, 63-52, Monday, but there was a silver lining.When the two teams met earlier in the season, Archbishop Williams jumped out to a 34-3 lead, and, with its starters gone after the first quarter, still pulled out a 29-point win.”It was a smoke show,” St. Mary’s coach Jeff Newhall said, adding that the Bishops are the defending state champs and they have all their players back.It was a different story in round 2. The Spartans never trailed by more than 14, and with five minutes remaining in the third quarter, they were only down by six points.”This was fundamentally, physically and emotionally the best game we’ve played this year,” Newhall said.Tori Faieta led the Spartans with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
