Salem State men’s hoop defeats Lesley University

The Salem State men’s basketball team received 21 points from senior guard Alex Finn (Ashby) en route to a 97-72 victory over Lesley University (5-13) in a non-conference game played Tuesday evening at James Twohig Gymnasium.Finn, who is one of the nation’s top Division 3 three-point bombers, drilled three of the five attempts he launched from international waters over the game’s first 20 minutes. He added two more treys in the second half. Senior guard Marquis Victor (Lawrence) added 11 first-half points for the Vikings, who jumped out to a 14-2 lead to start the contest. SSC’s lead swelled to a 35-14 with 7:49 to go before the break.The Vikings (14-5), who never trailed, put the game away in the second half, outscoring the Lynx, 44-33. Senior forward Jeremy Taitt (Boston) posted a team-high 11 boards for SSC, which also received six caroms each from junior center Dylan Holmes (Groton), sophomore center Tommy Henderson (Westboro) and freshman forward Nick Linear (Salem). Victor finished with 13 points while Holmes and Henderson chipped in with 15 and 13, respectively.The Lynx were led by freshman center Jesus Trejo’s game-high 13 rebounds and 10 points. Senior guard Joseph Chatman (Boston) scored a team-high 19 for the visitors.SSC’s next game will be Saturday, Feb. 9, when the second-place Vikings travel to Fitchburg State to take on the first-place Falcons in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game at 3:00 p.m.
