Lynn brothers arrested for guns, drugs

LYNN-Two Lynn brothers were arrested Friday on several weapons and narcotics charges after Gang Unit officers realized the driver was unlicensed and initiated a traffic stop on Summer Street, according to police.Junior W. Charles, 28 and Steeven V. Charles, 23, both of 51 Arlington St., were arrested after police found a loaded .25-caliber semi-automatic firearm in the vehicle after it was pulled over around 9 p.m., police said.Officers assigned to the Lynn Police Gang Unit and State Police Troopers working with them were on patrol near Tremont Street when they first noticed the driver and believed he was not licensed, police said.”They observed a vehicle operated by a party whom they believed to be unlicensed,” Lynn Police Capt. Mark O’Toole said. “They also observed the vehicle to have defective equipment.”Shortly after observing the firearm, police took the brothers into custody and searched the vehicle, finding marijuana and over 26 grams of cocaine, police said.Both brothers were charged with possession of a firearm without a Firearms Identification Card unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of a class D drug (marijuana).Steeven Charles, the driver, was additionally charged with trafficking over 14 grams of a class B drug (cocaine), being a felon in possession of a firearm, driving with a suspended license, a marked lanes violation, attaching the wrong license plate to his vehicle and a drug violation in a school zone, the Connery School.The brothers are scheduled for arraignment today in Lynn District Court.
