LYNN – A Lynn man died late Sunday after he was shot multiple times in the upper torso outside White Hen Pantry in Austin Square.Darlin Guzman, 28, of 33 Lincoln St., #37, succumbed to injuries shortly after the 11 p.m. shooting.Upon arrival, police found Guzman lying on the ground outside of the convenience store. He was treated at the scene and transported to Salem Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. No arrests were made Monday and the suspect is still at large. An employee of White Hen who witnessed the shooting said Guzman was arguing with the suspect when shots rang out, according to the store’s owner.”Two minutes before [shots were fired] they were arguing,” Emad Abedeldin, owner of the Austin Square White Hen Pantry said. “They were not customers.”The employee told Abedeldin that Guzman was outside the business, possibly making a phone call, and never came into the store before he was shot, Abedeldin said.Police said the suspect was last seen fleeing the area in a red Honda Accord on Boston Street toward Saugus.”I’m shocked by the whole thing,” Abedeldin said. “I haven’t seen anything like that in the three or four years I’ve been here.”According to police, the suspect is described as a light skinned male in his mid 20s, six feet tall, with a thin build, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.Guzman was charged with aggravated assault and battery and witness intimidation on April 20, 2004 after he allegedly slapped and argued with his then-pregnant girlfriend.Court records filed on Guzman’s behalf indicated the pair argued after the girlfriend and another woman known to Guzman exchanged angry telephone calls and messages.A judge dismissed the case in July 2004 for failure to prosecute. Guzman was also charged in 2003 and 1998 for motor vehicle violations. No one could be reached for comment at Guzman’s residence Monday. The incident is being investigated by State Police detectives assigned to District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett’s office, and the Lynn Police detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.Anyone with information on the murder is asked to call Lynn police at 781-595-2000.
