LYNN – A Lynn custom lighting business is set to make its national debut on the reality TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.Lucia Lighting, 311 Western Ave., will participate in an upcoming show by donating a 7-foot-tall Middle Eastern floor lamp worth about $4,700.Show producers called the upscale lighting store to request a specific decorative floor lamp for the child’s room in the house getting a makeover. One of the set designers spotted the lamp in a printed ad that Lucia Lighting took out in Boston Magazine’s Home and Garden issue.A Maynard home has been targeted by the show but producers did not release the address. The show has won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Program, plus the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Reality Show/Makeover and the Family Television Award for Best Alternative/Reality Program. The concept is simple: Find a run-down house, a deserving family, several opinionated designers, scores of volunteers, and give them seven days to work their magic. In its fifth season on ABC, the show spans locations from Hawaii to the East Coat, visiting new states with a goal of carrying out an extreme makeover in all 50 over two seasons.Producers claim there’s nowhere Extreme Makeover: Home Edition won’t go to help a family in need. This current season will also include the latest in extreme technology, highlighted by an all “green” build in Arizona. Each episode will include a green element, with eco-friendly, low energy and recyclable sources incorporated into the builds. For those unfamiliar with the show, each episode is self-contained and features a race against time on a project that would ordinarily take at least four months to achieve, involving a team of designers, contractors and several hundred workers who have just seven days to totally rebuild an entire house ? every single room, plus the exterior and landscaping.”They’re knocking on somebody’s door in Maynard for this particular show,” said David Solimine Jr., a co-owner of Lucia Lighting.Lucy Dearborn, Solimine’s business partner and general manager of the lighting store, said the lamp is perfect for a child’s room.”It’s so exciting. Really, it’s a thrill to be part of this,” said Dearborn. “The lamp is so beautiful and it’s very hard to miss. It’s lime green and has a huge piece of shade fabric that looks like something out of Dr. Seuss. It’s unbelievably cool. It’s whimsical. Makes you think of a fairytale.”Dearborn is scheduled to bring the lamp to the house on Feb. 28 when the volunteer construction crew moves in the furniture.AS of now, it is unknown when the Maynard home will be featured on the show, but the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
