SWAMPSCOTT – Superintendent Matthew Malone is beginning the process of negotiating a multi-year contract with Hadley Elementary School Principal Sandra Rivers. In May 2007, Malone appointed Rivers as principal of Hadley for one year and he conducted a principal search, which he said is something he promised the community he would do.”We received some applications and I reviewed all the applicants,” he said. “But the number one candidate and the one I want is already there. I met with the entire Hadley faculty on Tuesday afternoon and let them know my intentions. The bottom line is the leadership team and I concur that Sandra represents someone with strong knowledge of work we are doing in instruction. She understands the value of educating the whole child and has built strong relations with the Hadley community.”Rivers said she is very excited about the opportunity to continue her work at Hadley School.”I love this school,” she said. “I would not want to be anywhere else. I started my career at the elementary level and it is such a joy to be back around young children. I’m looking forward to the future.”Rivers was hired by the district in the fall of 2005 as the assistant vice-principal at the middle school. Before she started working in Swampscott, Rivers was employed for 15 years as a sixth-grade teacher at Higgins Middle School in Peabody.Rivers received a B.S. in Education from Salem State College in 1971 and a Master of Education Degree from Cambridge College in 1993.Rivers was employed as an administrative assistant for a physician’s office from 1990 to 1992 and as a travel consultant from 1984 to 1989. Prior to that, she worked as an elementary school teacher in Reading and in Newton, N.J.
