LYNN – A Lynn man was arrested in New Hampshire Wednesday after his 25-year-old girlfriend was found shot in her Nashua home, police said.Jeremy Menendez, 18, of 38 Rockaway St., Lynn, was arrested and charged with recklessly causing bodily injury using a dangerous weapon, second-degree domestic violence assault and possession of marijuana.Police say Menendez was acting carelessly with a handgun when it accidentally went off, striking his girlfriend in the hand around 9 p.m.The gun went off inside the girlfriend’s Brook Village Road apartment, where six children – all under the age of seven – were home, police said.”There is no indication the gun was used in a threatening manner,” Nashua Police Sgt. Jeff Maher said. “It was negligently handled.”Maher says some of the young children belonged to the victim, but not all were hers. The victim underwent surgery at a local hospital Wednesday night.Menendez was arraigned Thursday in Nashua District Court and ordered held on $10,000 cash bail. As of Thursday night, he was still incarcerated at the Valley Street Jail in Manchester, N.H., according to police.Maher says the shooting was a little surprising.”We don’t have a significant amount of shootings in Nashua, either accidentally or purposely,” he said.Menendez was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for simple assault and battery.
