March 12, 2008 by cstevens

SAUGUS – The Charter Commission plans to continue its continued public hearing one more time on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall auditorium.Commission Chairman Peter Manoogian said the meeting is an extension of the two previous public hearings. It is a chance for residents to have their say regarding how they believe town government is being run and what might need changing.”And rumor has it that Ellen Burns will be there,” Manoogian said regarding the town’s longest serving elected official. The commission has spent the last several months interviewing both elected and appointed town officials and everyone has stepped up to help out with one glaring omission: former Selectman Janette Fasano.Despite being invited to come in and chat, Fasano has yet to make an appearance at a Charter Commission meeting.”The Charter Commission also voted 9-0 to sent a personal letter to Janette Fasano asking her again to come in,” Manoogian said. “We still haven’t heard back from her and she was around in government for 25 years.”Other than pining to speak to Fasano, Manoogian said the commission is right on track and ticking off its to-do list.By the end of the month, members will each write up a two-paragraph summary of their take on the charter review experience thus far, a reflection, Manoogian said.Next, he said the group would put together a summary of what it sees as the needs of the town, solutions and a prototype of how to carry out the solutions.”With lots of public input,” he added.Manoogian said there would also be information available at the annual Town Meeting, which kicks off per order of the town charter on the first Monday of every May.”We are right on schedule,” Manoogian said.
