Lynn cop possible victim of assault

LYNN-An unidentified Lynn police officer was reportedly attacked Monday outside of a Boston bar.Boston police said officers responded to The Place on Broad Street in downtown Boston shortly after 1:30 a.m. on a report of a fight.The victim said he accidentally bumped into someone inside the bar and a fight ensued, police said. When the victim tried to leave the establishment about five minutes later, a group of five men reportedly attacked the unidentified officer.The victim was transported to Mass. General Hospital for “various injuries,” according to Officer James Kenneally, a Boston police spokesperson.Kenneally said he could not identify the victim or say whether he was a Lynn police officer.However, an employee of WHDH-TV told the Item that Boston officers on the scene identified the victim as a Lynn police officer.A police source also identified the victim as a Lynn officer, and said other Lynn officers were at the scene.Lynn police spokesperson Lt. Dave Brown declined comment.
