The Salem State College baseball team had its five-game winning streak stopped in a 15-12 loss to Endicott College Wednesday at Salem.The Gulls jumped out to a 10-7 lead after six innings, added five more runs over the final two frames and then weathered a last inning rally by the Vikings (9-5).The Vikings, who finished with 11 hits, made a game of it in the ninth inning by scoring five times. Freshman shortstop Ryan Kane (Nahant) continued to wield a hot bat for the Vikings, going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI. Sophomore Ben Garlington (Rochester) contributed a three-run double in the ninth.Senior catcher Marc Crovo (Melrose), senior outfielder Bobby Celentano (Peabody) and senior first baseman Ken Luongo (Wilmington) each had two hits for SSC, which also received two RBI apiece from Celentano, Luongo and sophomore second baseman Aaron Blades (Chino, CA).The Gulls (6-4) pounded out 19 hits off four Viking hurlers.Salem State’s next game will be Thursday at home against Rhode Island College (3).SOFTBALLThe Lady Vikings swept the University of Massachusetts Boston, 17-2 and 10-0 at Alumni Field.SSC (8-7) plated 12 runs in the first inning of game one and the Vikings did it without a hit and without the ball leaving the infield. Salem State drew a dozen bases on balls and had three batters hit by pitches during the opening frame. Six runs scored on wild pitches. Four different players scored twice in the inning against the Beacons (1-9).The Lady Vikings tacked on one run in the second and four more in the third before game one was called after four and a half innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. Sophomore rightfielder Erica Sonia (Lynn) scored three times and had an RBI double. Junior righthander Katelyn Doherty (Lynnfield) recorded the victory, collecting three strike outs, scattering six hits and walking three.The Lady Vikings jumped out again early in game two, scoring six times in the second inning, three times in the third and once more in the fourth. Sophomore second baseman Amanda Scola (Leominster) went 2-for-3 with a two-run double and run scored; freshman third baseman Taylor Orland (Danvers) went 3-for-3 with an RBI single and run scored; freshman pitcher Krystal Coleman (Chelmsford) went 3-for-3 with an RBI single and scored twice. Brown also produced a two-run single. Coleman completed the eight-run mercy rule decision with five strike outs while allowing just three hits and one walk.SSC is at Gordon College Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.TENNISThe Salem State women’s tennis team lost to Endicott College, 6-3, at Salem. The Vikings had ingles victories from sophomore Adrien Malosse (Triel Sur Seine, France) at No. 1 (6-7, 6-0, 6-1) and freshman Alex Eisath (Renon, Italy) at No. 6 (6-1, 6-3). Malosse teamed with sophomore Rob Random (Newbury) at No. 1 doubles to post a 9-8 pro set victory.Salem State’s next next match will be Saturday at home (1) against Rhode Island College.
