March Madness makes to elementary school level

LYNN – March Madness elementary school style kicks into high gear today with the finals of the 33rd annual Lynn Elementary School Tournament at Pickering Middle School.The tournament started two weekends ago, skipped last (Easter) weekend and resumed Friday with the semifinals.The Division 1 boys games featured a couple of explosive offensive performances. Luke Harris had 18 points and Shawndy Pierre had six points to help Shoemaker to a 26-16 win over Ford. Christopher Foley was to scorer for Ford with four points.In the other semifinal, Steven Collins went on a scoring spree for Harrington, scoring 24 points in a 30-11 win over Connery. John Aparicio had five points and Timmy Soung had four points in the loss.In Division 1 girls, Ingalls topped Shoemaker, 18-14, led by Veronica Beroa (10 points) and Patricia Asuccio (6 points). Heidi Milham had five points and Meaghan O’Neil, four points, for Shoemaker.In the other semifinal, Callahan trailed 10-0 at the half, but rallied to make it a game by outscoring Harrington down the stretch.Harrington won, 11-6. Omjuma Wargo had five points for Harrington and Crystal Sewell had four points for Callahan.In Division 3 boys semifinal action,Joe Tardiff scored the winning basket with about a minute remaining to give Sewell-anderson a 16-14 victory of Tracy. Ben Craven had five points and Pedro Betances had four points in the win. Andernee Por had 10 points for Tracy.In the other Division 3 boys semifinal, Strati Saranteas scored 11 points and Nehemiah Brent had five points to help Lincoln-Thomson to a 35-14 won over Lynn Woods. Kyle Autillo had four points for Lynn Woods.In today’s final matchups, Sewell-Anderson plays Lincoln-Thomson at 10 a.m. (Division 3 boys); Lynn Woods vs. Lincoln-Thomson, 11 a.m. (Division 3 girls); Ingalls vs. Harrington, noon, in Division 1 girls; Harrington vs. Shoemaker, 1 p.m., in Division 1 boys. In Division 2 girls final action, Sisson vs. Drewicz, 2 p.m. Sisson plays Cobbet at 3 p.m. in Division 2 boys.
