SALEM – A Lynnfield man accused of robbing a CVS Pharmacy and a Dunkin’ Donuts in Lynn during a two-day crime spree has been indicted by an Essex County grand jury.Michael Kane, 44, of 35 Carter Road, Lynnfield, stands charged with two counts of unarmed robbery – crimes that carry a potential life sentence in state prison.Authorities say at about noon on March 13 Kane robbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the CVS Pharmacy at 102 Boston St., in Lynn. The next day, he apparently grabbed cash from the register drawer when it was open at the Dunkin’ Donuts located at 577 Walnut St., in Lynn.In both instances, the would-be-robber approached the counter and as the store clerk opened the cash register, he grabbed the cash from the till and fled from the scene.Kane was arrested following the Dunkin’ Donuts robbery when he was picked up in a getaway truck on Boston Street. The indictments handed up by the grand jury now move his case from Lynn District Court to Salem Superior Court.Indictments are not an indication of guilt, rather a grand jury found sufficient evidence to warrant a jury trial, allowing for a more severe punishment.Assistant District Attorney Jean M. Curran is prosecuting the case for the commonwealth.
