REVERE – An outside electrical fire took place at a pumping station on Mermaid Avenue, off of Broadsound Avenue, around 5:40 p.m. Friday.Deputy Chief Chris Bright said two multi-family homes adjacent to the building had to be evacuated for safety precautions.”The fire was actually in the electrical feed coming into the building,” he said. “It was sparking, smoking and exploding, we didn’t know what was going to happen.”Bright said National Grid and the Department of Conservation and Recreation responded to the scene.Eventually, Bright said the fire extinguished on its own.”There was a lot of electrical damage, but just to the power feed,” he said.No injuries were reported.
