NAHANT – Resident parking stickers are being given out to numerous non-residents including Lynn District Court employees, according to several residents. One Lynn District Court employee, who asked not to be identified, said the beach parking stickers have been routinely given to Lynn District Court employees, but he declined to say who is handing out the stickers and if there is a fee involved. The coveted parking stickers allow residents to park in municipal parking lots, including those at East Point and the Lowlands.Resident Rob Scanlon and one town employee, who asked not to be identified, said the practice of giving parking stickers to out of town residents is unfair to Nahant residents, who must pay $5 per sticker and be up to date on all their bills including property taxes, excise tax and water bills.According to the Treasurer’s Office there are approximately 3,500 registered vehicles in town and Nahant Town Administrator Mark Cullinan said there are approximately 1,500 parking stickers printed annually, which are available from the Town Clerk’s office.Cullinan said there are instances where out of town residents do qualify for parking stickers and the fee is $25 for non-residents.”The stickers are available to some out of town residents, who routinely have business in town,” he said. “Out of town residents who qualify for a sticker pay $25. The stickers are not given out free.”Cullinan said the town also issues stickers to a couple of businesses and individuals who have made significant contributions to the town.”For example we have a contractor, who donates sinks and other items for bathrooms in town,” he said. “We also have a car wash in Lynn that washes town vehicles for free and we did issue those companies a sticker.”
