REVERE – Two North Shore men were caught in the act Monday purchasing Oxycontin at a Revere Beach Parkway apartment during a sting operation, police said.William Rogers, 39, of 2337 Founders Way, Saugus and Christopher M. McCarthy, 40 of 10 Corey Drive, Peabody were arrested after a drug deal at 595 Revere Beach Parkway, apartment 55, shortly after 5:30 p.m., according to police.Shortly before the arrests were made, the U.S. Postal Service alerted police that the resident of the apartment, identified as Carl Bonfiglio, was expecting a package containing a large amount of OxyContin.Bonfiglio was not arrested, but he will likely face charges, police said.When the package arrived at his home, police seized it and discovered 300 pills of Oxycontin, 80 milligrams each, according to police.Officers from Revere Police, State Police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency waited outside the apartment as Rogers allegedly went inside to purchase 200 pills for $40 each, according to police.Rogers allegedly gave Bonfiglio $9,000 in back payment for previous drug purchases and another $1,000 as a down payment for the OC’s he had just received.Police say Rogers then walked back to his car, where McCarthy was inside waiting for him.Both men were searched and McCarthy was allegedly found in possession of two cell phones, $1,400 cash and three Percocet pills.Later, police searched Roger’s Saugus home and found $6,500 cash, a scale, marijuana, Oxycontin, Percocet and a white powder that is currently being examined to determine if it is an illegal narcotic, according to police.$16,780 cash was seized from the three defendants in total.Rogers was charged with trafficking over 28 grams of a class A drug (Oxycontin), a drug violation near a school zone and conspiracy to violate drug laws.McCarthy was charged with possession of a class B drug (Percocet) with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate drug laws.More charges may follow, police said.
