PEABODY – A split tree and broken metal fencing outside of the George Peabody House Museum mark the site of the fatal accident involving one Peabody man Friday morning.According to police, Kevin Duncan, 251 Newbury St., was believed to be speeding and under the influence of alcohol when he drove passed 204 Washington Street and slammed into a nearby tree. The incident took place at approximately 12:35 a.m.Duncan was removed from the wrecked vehicle and transported to Salem Hospital, where he was treated for the serious injuries he sustained in the crash. He died at the hospital shortly after.It was thought that Duncan had been drag racing along Route 1 prior to his arrival on Washington Street, but Peabody Police Lt. Dennis Bonaiuto said there is no information to back up those suspicions. The incident is currently being investigated by both the Peabody Police and Massachusetts State Police.
