LYNN – Channeling the talent of famous artists, both locally and nationally known, the gifted fifth graders at the Harrington School’s Project Summit program tried their hand at painting recently, and have displayed the finished product as part of the Lynn Arts Hartman Leigh Children’s Gallery. With grant money and fundraising, Program Director Kathy Ryan was able to hire a local artist, Dottie Doucette of Peabody, to work with her class on the project. Students explored the styles of Vincent van Gogh, Georgia O’Keefe and the Lynn Beach Painters, creating three of their own individual works. Each student then chose their favorite painting for display in the gallery, accompanied by poems and essays written by the students about the paintings. While studying the Lynn Beach Painters, the Project Summit students also learned a great deal of local and art history.According to Ryan, several people attending the exhibit have even asked about the possibility of purchasing the paintings because they were so impressive. The Project Summit exhibit is on display at Lynn Arts through Friday. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
