LYNN – A criminal with a violent past was shot once in the torso on Chestnut Street Wednesday night and remains in critical condition, police said.Jason Estabrook, 24, of Lynn, was first transported by friends to Union Hospital, but was later transported to Mass. General Hospital in Boston, according to police.Police examined a bullet-riddled van from Sal’s Car Care, an automobile detail and cleaning business with an address listed as a Nahant P.O. Box, outside Union Hospital around midnight.Police would not confirm if the shooting was the result of a drive-by.According to a press release, officers responded to the area of 28 Chestnut St. at approximately 11:15 p.m. Wednesday on multiple reports of shots fired. Police located several individuals running down Chestnut Street toward Atlantic Street, but could not locate a victim.Moments later, Union Hospital officials notified police that Estabrook was being treated for a gunshot wound.No arrests were made.Estabrook’s last known address was 13 Stone Place, Lynn. He has been arrested at least five times by Lynn and Saugus police for various violent offenses.Most notably, he was arrested with two others in November 2005 on two counts of attempted murder, armed robbery and other charges after he participated in the brutal beating of two teenagers inside a vacant Broad Street house by means of a baseball bat and a hammer.His other arrests include two counts of assault and battery on a police officer on July 30, 2005 in Lynn; trespassing and threatening to commit assault and battery using a weapon on Aug. 24, 2003 in Saugus; intimidation of a witness and trespassing on Aug. 23, 2007 in Lynn; and being a minor in possession of alcohol on Oct. 30, 2003 in Lynn.
