Peabody police search for foiled bank robber

PEABODY – A lone man attempted to rob the Sovereign Bank on Route 114 Tuesday but didn’t get any cash, police said.A white man in his early 20s, approximately 5-foot-10 with strawberry blond hair and freckles, wearing a black cap, a gray sweatshirt, jeans and white sneakers, attempted to pass a note to the bank teller at about 10:50 a.m., according to Peabody Det. Peter Olsen.”He tried to pass a note,” Olsen said. “The teller became suspicious and pressed the alarm button.”The suspect ran out of the bank with the note in his hand, police said.”He didn’t cause a commotion and no one was injured,” Olsen said.The suspect left the area in a small green car, possibly a Ford Focus, and headed eastbound on Route 114, also known as Andover Street, Olsen said.The FBI’s Bank Robbery Task Force, State Police and Peabody Police are all working the case. Anyone with information should call Peabody Police at 978-531-1226.
