LYNN – The sister of a suspected gang member who was shot in the chest on Chestnut Street last Wednesday was arrested Friday for allegedly lying to police about the shooting.Vanessa Estabrook, 19, of 13 Stone Place, Lynn, was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice.Jason Estabrook, 24, was shot in the chest while he was sitting inside a van near the corner of Lewis Street at about 11:30 p.m. April 16.Police are investigating whether last week’s shooting had something to do with an alleged sexual assault against Vanessa Estabrook at Kennedy Fried Chicken on Union Street earlier in the evening.Police say Jason Estabrook might have been looking for the man who allegedly assaulted his sister at the time he was shot.Jason had open-heart surgery at Mass. General Hospital to remove the bullet. Even though police suspect Estabrook knows who fired the shot, he repeatedly declined to identify the shooter and was quoted as saying, “I’m no snitch,” and, “My people know who did this,” numerous times in police reports. On his MySpace.com Web site, Estabrook refers to himself as the “Crookie Monster” and posted images commonly associated with the “Gangsta Disciples.”The gunshot victim also posted other audacious pictures on the Web site, including one photo with a suitcase full of cash and a snapshot of what appears to be a living room with dozens of bags of narcotics lying on the floor.Police say Vanessa Estabrook gave several conflicting statements to police about the alleged sexual assault – first saying it happened, later saying it didn’t – to police in the days after her brother was shot.According to a police report, Vanessa Estabrook is the girlfriend of notorious Lynn gangster Hanky Bettancourt and has the name “Hanky” tattooed on her back.Police have identified possible suspects, but no arrests have been made.
