LYNN – A 25-year-old Lynn man was shot at least twice Wednesday while standing at the corner of Essex Street and Brownville Avenue, police said.The victim’s name was not immediately released. He was transported by MedFlight helicopter to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, according to police.Witnesses said the victim was wounded in the chest and buttocks.The shooting occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. on one of the city’s busiest streets. Hundreds of people looked on as police closed Essex Street during rush hour traffic to treat the victim.Police searched for a white Escalade SUV that may have been involved in the shooting immediately after it occurred.Within a few minutes of the shooting, a mother leaving a nearby liquor store ushered her young children back to their home a few doors down as a girl no older than 8 years old was crying and asking, “What happened?”Eliomar Reis, 38, recently moved from Revere to an apartment on Joyce Street with his 6-year-old son and says he heard several gunshots.”I’m in my backyard smoking a cigarette and I hear five or six gunshots,” Reis said. “I walk to my front door, I say, ‘Oh, my God.'”Reis leaves for work very early in the morning and says drug dealers are often walking around at that time.”I don’t want (my son) growing up in a place like that,” he said.As of press time, no arrests were made.
